Healthy 3-Ingredient Brownies (Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Egg Free)

Healthy 3-Ingredient Brownies (Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Egg Free)

I’ve been meaning to whip up some banana-based brownies for about a week now, but the bananas themselves just haven’t been ripe enough. What a bloody commitment buying green bananas is. It’s practically marriage.

My chocolate cravings have been insatiable as of late. That means I’ve been a little bit naughty and buying the odd ‘Go Natural’ bar, or a Booja Booja box if I can afford it (if you’re yet to try them I highly recommend the stem ginger bad boys). So I decided to make some super healthy brownies to satisfy my sweet tooth using as few ingredients as possible.

No flour, no butter, no egg, no other added nasties. They’re dense, fudgey and rich, with a unique choc-banana taste. Perfect for anyone following a gluten-free, vegan or paleo diet.

Here is the only components I used to get my devilish fix:

1

Yup. Cocoa, almond butter and ba-na-nahs. If you like your brownies chunky like I do, a fork and a good old mashing should do the trick. For a smoother consistency, throw the mixture in a blender.

Ingredients

3 medium, overripe bananas

130g almond butter (although any smooth nut butter will work)

2 tbsp cocoa powder (add more for a richer taste)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Grease a small cake pan and set aside.
  2. In a small pan or microwavable bowl, melt your almond butter.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, add the banana, almond butter and cocoa powder and mix well (or blend).
  4. Pour the mixture into the greased pan and bake for around 20 minutes or until cooked through. Allow to cool completely before slicing into portions.

The other half and I had one with a coffee just before and I practically turned into Gregg Wallace from Masterchef with the pleasurable gargles I was making. The rest will be going in the fridge for snacks this week; once they’ve been refrigerated overnight they’ll be even denser and tastier.

Healthy, flourless, beautiful brownies. No longer am I a rabid chocohound, desperate for a fix. Try the paleo recipe for yourself and let me know what you think!

*Oh, and I almost forgot to say – lick the bowl. You won’t regret it 😉
